Cambodia 2010 |

| From Taiwan, we flew with a Chinese tourist group to a 5-day organized bus tour to Cambodia. The main attraction of this poor country is the temple complex of Angkor Wat and the countless other temples nearby. Many of them are in a ruinous state and partially overgrown by the jungle. However, this gives them a very special appeal, showing dramatically the transiency of former empires. Besides Angkor Wat, we also saw the temples of Bayon, Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei, Preah Khan, Ta Som, Eastern Mebon and Pre Rup. Back in Phnom Pen, we got on an organized boat tour on the Tonlé Sap River, saw the Royal Palace (just from the outside) and visited Wat Phnom. We ventured on our own with a Remork-Moto to the Tuol Sleng Museum and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, which are grim witnesses of the Khmer Rouge genocide on its own people. |
