Jordan 2024

Many people may do not have Jordan in mind as a primary destination of the middle east. For us, it was as spectacular as Egypt or Israel. We booked a two week hiking tour with a small group. We visited Amman, Jerash, Madaba and Aqaba, and saw the main attraction there, such as the Roman Theater, the King Abdullah I Mosque, the well-preserved Roman ruins of Jerash, Mount Nebo, the baptismal site of Jesus and the Death Sea. We hiked the nature reserve of Aljun, Wadi bin Hammad and Dana. The most spectacular nature scenery was Wadi Rum, where we stayed over two nights. The top attraction in Jordan is the archaeological site of Petra with rock-cut tombs from the Nabataean period and the Cardo Maximus from the Roman period. We will never forget the spectacular view from the top of the Al-Khubtha trail on the Al-Khazneh, aka the Treasury.
